156 Dishes, 10 Chefs and 1BHK

1 BHK, Baner

The authenticity of butter chicken has inarguably faced the most twisted logic of all times. While the ‘real butter chicken’, that which originated in Punjabi households up North is anything but sweet. The synonymity with ‘Butter Chicken’ and ‘Sweetness’ is a result of severe migration and every region trying ‘their own’ version of this dish. While a lot is lost and amidst the realms of confusion, 1 BHK enters like a boss.

Butter Chicken

1 BHK stands for a B(ar) H(aute) and K(itchen). The name itself exudes class, echelon and vogue. The last time I heard the term, ‘Haute’ was on the cover of a fashion magazine, the French term which is convincingly absorbed in the high toned and snazzy interiors of the bar. This place is home to the most bonafide form of butter chicken that you can lay your hands on in the city while sheathing some delicious Indian and Global fare. The menu which runs into several pages is a synthesis of the artistry and culinary flair of 10 Chefs.

They’ve got the looks, They’ve got the food! 1BHK executes everything from the kitchen to the table flawlessly leaving you with a feeling of triumph over having chosen this place. Here’s a minor glimpse of the mammoth menu that I tried recently.

Shrimp Cocktail Salad

Rating – 5/5

A stirring start to the meal. Mid sized, fresh and well cooked shrimps served in a cocktail glass in an in-house dressing, with tones of Caesar and cream. Works as a beautiful palate cleanser cum appetizer.

Hyderabadi Do Nalli Seekh

Rating – 5/5

A stunning idea which was very well executed. Do Nalli literally reflects the two kinds of meat beautifully crafted like a Nalli or a hollow seekh. The individual flavors of both the mutton and chicken is retained while they blend like magic in appearance. A truly exotic try when at 1 BHK. This should not be missed.

1 BHK King Non Veg Mezze Platter

Rating – 5/5

A platter well suited for ‘Kings’ indeed. The platter serves 4-5 persons and comes out as a perfect pick when you can’t zero down on which one starter to call for. The platter has quite a few kebabs read – shish taouk, bhatti murgh, chicken lemongrass, calamari, prawns, shami kafta, mutton burrah. If that wasn’t enough, we have an exotic array of mezze dips with pita bread to nibble on the side and of course, chunks of dark chocolate which can-not be missed. The dips included some very smoky baba ganoush, a fresh burst of creamy tzatziki, beetroot and regular hummus. This platter could work as a complete meal.

1 BHK Special Meaty Nazza

Rating – 4/5

Not the Nanza but a Nazza. We were told, this crossbreed between the pizza and Naan was attempted by the founders of 1BHK long before it gained popularity across the city. The ‘name tag’ aside, the Nazza was delicious indeed. I wouldn’t label it the best in the city but definitely worthy of a try. The base was more Naan than pizza and loaded with a lot of meatiness. 1BHK special Meaty Nazza gives you chicken, lamb and bacon (which I skipped) entangles in a cheesy mess.

Butter Chicken Platter

Rating – 5/5

Enough has been said about the ‘star dish’, yes the droolicious butter chicken. The butter chicken platter is every desi-food lover’s reverie. Succulent chunks of chicken hanging on delicately to that bone, immersed in a decadent rich and smoky base. The perfect blend of tanginess with a tinge of smoky. The platter also serves a portion of luscious Dal Makhani and Zeera Rice with a choice of Naan or Lachcha Paratha.

Pescatore Mix Sea Food Pasta

Rating – 3/5

Pescatore is an Italian term for a Fisherman. Mix seafood pasta, read prawns, calamari, crab etc tossed in a red and white base, with a twist of chilli. We chose spaghetti as the base which was error no. 2 for this dish. The first being the choice of sauce, the base had a certain level of pungency which didn’t work too well. The elements remained more discrete for each.

Grilled John Dory with Almond Rosemary Dressing

Rating – 4/5

A rare find when you are accustomed to being served basa in every nook and cranny. John Dory is an exotic sea fish with pernicious looking spikes, beneath which lies a tender chunk of fish meat. 1 BHK prepares this well with mellow flavors of almond and rosemary. The feel is close to that of steak encircled with buttered vegetables. A refreshing treat to the eyes and palate likewise.

Blueberry Cheesecake

Rating – 5/5

Quite a few reasons on why I recommend this. Firstly it was an authentic Philadelphia cheesecake, not many places in the city offer. Secondly, the flavor of blueberry was more chunky and not syrupy. Every spoon was light with evident layering. Enough said, it might be the best cheesecake you want to try in the city.

Chocolate Truffle

Rating – 5/5

One bite I could concur that whatever I had been consuming for quite sometime in the name of ‘chocolate truffle’ was a joke. A name which happens to be one of the most commonly found variant across any bakery or restaurant chain, has been subjected to grave injustice. This one at 1BHK brings the essence of chocolate ganache (an essential component) to life and leaves you with a dark-sweet-light aftertaste.
